Sean C. Mahoney

Sean C. Mahoney 63 of Marlborough passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026 after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy, (MSA) surrounded by his loving family.

Sean was born in Boston, MA, the son of the late Aloysius and Eileen (Quinlan) Mahoney.

Sean was a graduate of Uxbridge High School in 1981 where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He was later inducted into the Uxbridge HS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. Sean was also a graduate of Worcester State where he played both baseball and football in the mid 80’s and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018, sharing a Hall of Fame class with his daughter Michaella.

In 2018 Sean earned a Mastes’s Degree from Coastal Carolina University.

Sean was a dedicated coach and educator. He began his football coaching career at Worcester State College as an assistant coach. He was appointed the Head Coach position at Shrewsbury High from 1994-1997. He then was appointed the Head Coaching position at Assumption College from 1998-2003 and ended his career coaching and teaching at Marlborough High School from 2004-2024.

While best known for coaching football, Coach Mahoney’s impact extended to youth softball and baseball in addition to his high school basketball, track and tennis teams.

In 2024 Sean was inducted into the Massachusetts Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Many of those who crossed paths with Sean professionally through the football and education community consider him to be a great mentor and friend.

Sean had a gift for knowing exactly what to say, offering guidance, encouragement and motivation at just the right moment. He was a devoted father and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was cheering on his kids. He had an incredibly special bond with his grandson Sheamus who was able to play high school football for him in his final years of coaching.

He cherished time spent at the beach, around a campfire with family and friends, and going on weekend adventures. He brought laughter and light to every gathering leaving behind a legacy of love, presence and joy that will never be forgotten.

Sean is survived by his loving wife Nicole “Nikki” Fallon Mahoney of Marlborough, his children, Michaella DaSilva and her husband Matthew, James Mahoney and his partner, Heidi of Webster, Daniel Mahoney of E. Boston, Matthew Carlman and his wife Caroline of Walpole, his grandchildren Sheamus Mahoney, Aliva DaSilva and Charlie Carlman, his 2 brothers Mike Mahoney of MS, Mark Mahoney and his wife Laura of RI, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Aloysius “Joe” Mahoney in 2008.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his closest friend Jeff Rudzinsky, Sean’s lifelong Uxbridge friends, his Friday coffee visitors and the previous co-coaches who regularly visited him during his battle with MSA.

Visitation for Sean will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 4-8 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.  Overflow parking will be at Ward Park at the bottom of Orchard St. where a shuttle service will take you to the Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11 am in St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St, Marlborough, MA.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough, MA
