Neia Anjuli McGinn, 40 of Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Neia was born in Calcutta, India before coming to the United States at the age of three months, to be adopted into the family by her parents, Paul and Mary-Elaine (Exarhopoulos) McGinn.
She is survived by her parents, Paul and Mary-Elaine McGinn of East Wareham, MA, brothers, Christopher McGinn and his wife Meaghan of Templeton, Daniel McGinn and his wife Laurel of Sharon, sister-in-law, Stacey of Holden, a brother, Jermaine, two nephews, Lucas and Gavin, three nieces Alexis, Amara and Autumn, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Neia graduated from the deaf-blind program at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown. During her time at Perkins, she enjoyed gardening, art and demonstrated a keen sense of style. She loved mixing bold, eye-catching colors in both her artwork and her clothing. A highlight of her time at Perkins was a week-long field trip with her classmates and teachers to Walt Disney World in Florida. Always very social, Neia had a ready smile for everyone she met. Her ability to engage with people, in spite of her physical limitations, was charming to those around her.
Neia had a remarkable sense of humor, which was fueled by her family, who were always willing to do any silly thing to make her laugh.
Upon graduating, she resided in the community in a home provided by Charles River ARC and attended their Day Program in Needham. She loved to shop with her friends, whether for clothes, shoes or groceries; any excuse to be out socializing.
Following a serious illness last year, Neia resided at Bear Mountain in Worcester where she received excellent care and made many more friends.
The family would like to thank all the people who cared for, supported and loved Neia throughout her life. There are no words to express the depth of our gratitude.
