Michael O'Neill Obituary

Michael Thomas O’Neill, a devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 2nd at the age of 75.

Born in Boston on February 11, 1949, Michael lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to his family. The beloved husband of Virginia (Ginny) for over 55 wonderful years, they built a beautiful life and raised Erin, Julie, Michael, and Heather, who will forever carry his wisdom, humor, and love in their hearts.

A proud Army veteran, Michael enlisted in 1968 and was stationed in Goeppingen, West Germany. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Lowell Tech and his Master’s in Business from Suffolk University.  Throughout their marriage, he and Ginny took every opportunity to explore many extraordinary parts of the world.

Whether apple picking, cheering on his kids’ soccer games, or camping, Michael loved spending time outdoors with his loved ones. He was a die-hard Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics fan, spending many fun nights taking his children to games or watching them on TV. He was also a longtime New England Revolution season ticket holder. Michael had a deep love for music and could often be found listening to classical, Irish, or folk tunes. He was immensely proud of his lifelong career at Raytheon.

He was a steadfast champion for his loved ones, helping with homework late into the night, cheering from the sidelines, encouraging his children to chase their dreams, and being the most loving and silly PopPop his grandkids could have ever hoped for.

He is survived by his wife Ginny, daughters Erin (Jon), Julie (Tom), and Heather, and son Michael (Ariana). He also leaves his treasured grandchildren Emma, Maddie, Caroline, William, Aviendha, Aoife, Oona, Rhys, his sister Patricia, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Maureen and his parents, William and Mary O’Neill.
