Marjorie "Ruth" Connolly Obituary

Marjorie Ruth (Squires) Connolly, 89, of Marlborough passed away peacefully, in her home and surrounded by her loving family on November 25, 2025.

The oldest of ten children, "Ruth” as everyone knew her, was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, Canada in 1936 to the late Henry William and Flora Dorothy (Bennett) Squires.  She always cherished her childhood memories of growing up with so many siblings and cousins.

Her compassionate heart and desire to help others led her to her life's work as an RN.  She graduated from The General Hospital School of Nursing in St John’s Newfoundland in 1957 and enjoyed a life-long nursing career.

Ruth's memory and legacy will live on through her husband of 65 years Joseph Connolly Sr of Marlborough, daughter Cynthia (Connolly) Anderson and husband David of Marlborough, son Joseph Connolly Jr and partner Laura Mooers of Winchendon, son Mark Connolly Sr and wife Cynthia (Mejias) and cherished grandchildren Shannon and Joseph Connolly also of Winchendon, as well as her step grandchildren Amanda (Anderson) Rube (Ryan) of Louisville, KY and Jeremy Anderson (Kara) of Pace, FL.

Ruth is also survived by six siblings.  Three brothers, Stan (Cynthia) Squires, Clayton (Ethel) Squires and Ron (Linda) Squires and three sisters, Dorothy Squires, Cynthia Murphy (Squires) and Winnie Farrell (Squires) all of whom still live in Newfoundland.  Aunt Ruth also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, brothers Jimmy Squires and Curt Squires, sister Elizabeth King (Squires), brothers-in-law who were like brothers, a niece, a nephew and her beloved grandson Mark Connolly Jr.

Family was everything to Ruth.  She enjoyed many family trips home to Newfoundland, summers spent at Memorial Beach or in Rockport, MA.  She loved hosting family meals and get togethers.  She found great joy in attending her kids, and then grandkids sporting events.  She was happiest when spending time with family.  When face-to-face visits became less frequent, she enjoyed long phone chats with friends and family.  She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for her kind and generous heart by all who knew her.

At her request, no formal services will be held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to St. Jude's Hospital for Children or other charity’s of your choice.
