On November 4, 2020, Leonard A. Lekstrom Jr. passed away at age 74 in Worcester of COVID-19. Beloved brother of Cecile Lekstrom, Judy (LaDrew) Lekstrom and Barbara Lekstrom, Leonard lived most of his life in the Marlboro area. His late parents were Leonard and Jessie ("Scottie") Lekstrom, also of Marlboro.
Mentally handicapped from birth, Leonard spent much of his life in institutions. This was an ongoing cause of frustration for Len but over the years he matured and achieved a sense of acceptance that brought him inner peace.
Oldies music, bicycling and family were the three anchors of Len's life. In particular, he idolized Paul Anka. Because Len could not drive, he bicycled everywhere, on one occasion pedaling 72 miles in a day.
Always gregarious, Len made many friends, but family was his bedrock. Len learned honesty from his mother and generosity from his dad, and never forsook those virtues.
Due to the current risks of COVID, burial will be held at a later date.
The Lekstrom family feels particularly grateful to UMass Memorial Hospital for the loving care given to Leonard during his illness, and the COVID risk to which the staff subjected themselves on Len's behalf.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to UMass Memorial at donate.umassmemorial.org or by mailing to the UMass Memorial Office of Philanthropy, One Biotech Park, 365 Plantation Street, Worcester MA 01605.
