Judith "Judi" Hall Obituary

She went by many names: Mom, Ma, Marmy, Nana, Great Nana, The Warden, Professor, Mrs. Hall and Judi. Her family are saddened to announce the passing of Judith Ann Hall 85, of Marlborough, MA on January 25, 2025 in her home, after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Judi was born in Waltham, MA, the daughter of the late Raymond and Alice (Johnson) Barden.

She leaves behind her daughter Dawn-Marie Scharmer and her husband Andrew of Hollis, NH, her son David and his wife Laura of Ranson, WV, her five grandchildren; Ashleigh, Kenny, Zoe, Katelyn and Elissa Hall; and her great-granddaughter Evelyn. She also leaves behind her good friends and her village; her best friend Nancy Cole who she shared 45 years of friendship with and her husband Jim, Pat Economakos, Terry Pratt, Fred and Michelle Meyer, Roland Hall and Greg Pike.

Judi graduated from her beloved Boston College as a Nurse with distinct honors. She worked as a Nurse for many years in Boston and Waltham until she found her calling as a Medical Surgical Nursing Professor. She began her career at Lasalle College and continued her teaching career at Middlesex Community College for the next 22 years. She also received her Master’s degree from Worcester State University in Education, while teaching full-time. She tutored many of her students and tutored for the NCLEX exam in her office at school, as well as in her home in Marlboro. She received the distinct honor of Professor Emeritus from Middlesex Community College in 2005, with many of her previous students in attendance. She will forever be remembered by them, as a tough but fair instructor.

Judi was a die hard New England sports fan. She loved watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Beanpot games and was very articulate when describing the games. Yelling at the refs on tv was a gameday experience.

Judi was also a wonderful artist who loved to paint with oils. She created many treasured paintings that hang in her family’s homes. She loved to go to the casino with her family and her best friend Nancy, where she would spend many hours at the slot machines and then bring home Krispy Kreme jelly donuts, for her sweet tooth.

Judi was the epitome of “Family First”. It was her mantra, and she proved this throughout her life. She would insist on celebrating holidays and birthdays “all together”, cooking for these dinners for many years herself. She loved to FaceTime with her great granddaughter, watch videos of her daily accomplishments and loved to see pictures of her family, many displayed around her home. One of her favorite sayings was “the best gift to give, is the gift of time” and she proved this enjoying every phone call, letter, email, FaceTime and visit.

Judi’s family would like to thank Salmon Hospice, especially her nurse Tricia, for their compassion, phenomenal care and guidance during these last few months. She was a tough and vocal nursing critic but found the kind of care she taught throughout her career.

Following cremation, services will be held privately at a later date.

Donations can be made in Judi’s name to St. Bernadette’s Parish, Northboro, MA
